Supra-regional academic ALS centre and one of the 8 MND-NET founding members. Heads: Prof. Dr. Johannes Prudlo and Prof. Dr. Dr. Andreas Hermann; team includes Dr. Elisabeth Kasper, Sophie Fischer, and patient liaison officer Sylvia Röhring. Cares for ~100 ALS and frontotemporal dementia patients per year. Research specialization: cognition and behaviour in ALS (55% of ALS patients cognitively unimpaired, 35% impaired, 10% demented/FTD); TDP-43 proteinopathies linking ALS and half of FTLD (especially C9orf72 mutations); eye control-based neuropsychological diagnostics. Active in German Centre for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) BrainBanking autopsy study with Rostock Institute for Forensic Medicine. Hosts annual Rostock ALS Symposium and ALS Day (with DGM).
